The much discussed, often by itself, "A-list" of bloggers, previously a geeky and largely male is changing, according to evidence from blog search engine Technorati’s top 100 blogs.
Jack Schofield on the Guardian’s Technology Blog discusses the Tehcnorati Top 100 and a report (link broken) showing that in 9 months the top 100 blogs has changed drastically, which according to Jack:
The figures seem to demolish the idea that the Technorati 100/top blogs/A listers act as gatekeepers to the blogosphere.
I would agree. The A-list are important within their claques/communities, but the number of blogs and blog readers is growing so quickly, with as yet not fully known shifts in demographics, that grounds for arguing that an establishment of top gatekeeper bloggers having emerged already are shaky.
In social media everything is moving and everything is open and up for
grabs. that’s one of the things that makes this new media so thrilling
to watch and take part in.
That said, blogs like Boing Boing and Engadget have carved out clear niches, and resemble established media more than blogs now.
