Jon Snow: citizen journalism will see off unprofessional hacks

Via reporting from Jemima Kiss on journalism.co.uk

Not for Jon Snow the silliness of trying to corral citizen journalists into being "witness contributors". The influential Channel 4 News anchor yesterday told the Guardian‘s Changing Media Summit that in fact citizen journalism would "professionalise" journalism and help re-build public trust in the press by making them more accountable and transparent.

He went on to say that big media organisations actually prop up mediocre or poor journalists: "I don’t have anything against alcoholics, but when I entered journalism frankly there were plenty of people that just shouldn’t have been there. Massive media organisations protect these people."

Ben Hammersley backs him up in no uncertain terms – check out Ms Kiss’s post for the full gory details…
