City reporting automated by Thomson Financial

While Peter Preston is worrying about web-stats defining the news agenda, and New York Times journalists are writing headlines for Google, one business information group – Thomson Financial – is letting machines do all the copywriting.

According to the FT:

A newcomer to the financial news game relative to better-established rivals such as Reuters and Bloomberg, Thomson Financial has tried to make the most of its extensive databases of information to give its news an edge – automatically.

Reuters is having a go at this as well, and it all fits in neatly with the concept of automated trading on stock markets with computers making judgement calls on buying and selling based

So that’s stockbrokers, City journalists and presumably City PRs all disintermediated (to a certain extent) in one fell swoop.

Now that’s automation…
