Endemol, the company that brought Big Brother reality TV format to every known corner of the world, has taken the next logical step and set up the show in Second Life.
Visiting “Media Island”, my avatar found the following information about joining the BBSL project:
Big Brother Second Life
=============================Become a resident of the first virtual Big Brother!
Big Brother continues to write history.
After the earthquake caused in Holland by the first series in 1999, the rest of the real world was conquered.
Now it’s time for Big Brother in the virtual world: Second Life.Interested?
The first virtual and international Big Brother starts on 1 December. If all of your fellow residents get eliminated, leaving you as last in the house on 31 December 2006, you win a tropical island in Second Life!If you are able to spend a minimum of 8 hours a day online in the virtual house from 1 through 31 December, subscribe now and go down in history.
Apparently 15 lucky virtual people will be chosen to take part in this marathon Second Life session and will win… a virtual topical island. Nice, although speaking to a couple of passers by on Big Brother’s Media Island, they said that fascinating though the project was they would not be overjoyed at spending that much time in the metaverse each day.
My cheapskate Second Life avatar is now also wandering about the place in BigBrother free T-shirt. Graceless fool…
