“A-ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!”, was my reaction when I read the BBC article about the Press Complaints Commission director Tim Toulmin suggest that PCC code for blogs would be a good way to give people redress for
Is this the Press Complaints Commission which has lent a fig-leaf of responsibility to the rabid UK tabloid press as they broke every rule of decency and respect of privacy in the book over the past decade.
You can’t prescribe self-regulation for blogs – they do it themselves as far as they are interested. You didn’t regulate newspapers effectively. Go away.
: : And if I hadn’t stopped laughing by the end of the piece they saved an Alistair Campbell – former tabloid journalist and notorious for being a bullying, controlling press officer for Downing Street – make one of those incredible generalisations about:
Former Downing Street spin doctor Alastair Campbell, who chaired the session organised by the Commission for Racial Equality, said blogs were “perceived as a positive development” but added that “some of the most offensive stuff” comes from them.
Yeah, “some”. There’s still plenty of lies, half-truths, and morally reprehensible stuff in the daily newspapers without you ever having to go find that stiff on blogs. My favourite game when people spout nonsense about blogs is to replace the word “blogs” with “press” and see if it is as true or more true.
