Nooooo! They’re going to block Pandora…

…if you live outside of the US. Bah!

Not so bad in the UK according to the BBC but bah! all the same, I say. The Beeb quotes an apologetic Tim Westergen, founder of Pandora:

“Other than in the UK, we have not yet been able to make significant progress in our efforts to obtain a sufficient number of international licences at terms that would enable to run a viable business.”

Could be a big upside for Last.fm, perhaps?

I’m imagining a very angry Euan Semple if they cut off his Pandora…

  1. Ian, you’re a gent.

  2. Agree this is crap news but great to see there’s (already!) a cheat being passed around.

Disagree this is upside for Last.fm.

My personal feeling is that competition is good and, that useless platitude aside, most people I talk to have generally tried both and have them fit in slightly different ways for usage.

I think those of us keen on the future of digital music want to see as many useful runners and riders operating out there, changing people’s behaviour and forcing the media business’ hand.
